My name is Monica and I’m a new mom to the best thing that’s ever happened to me, Zebulon. We’re Turtle & Sugarbean.
I knew when I found out I was pregnant in 2016 that my life would soon be changing. And boy did it! Suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, I said what I thought was a temporary goodbye to my home and husband in Ohio to go and stay with my mom in South Carolina. (You see, my husband was a recruiter for the Marines at the time and was working 17 hour days so I had no one to help me.) While in South Carolina, many things came to light about my marriage and I’m currently in the middle of a divorce.
After my son was born in 2017, on a trip to the ER for stiffness and pain in my neck, they found nodules in my thyroid. After an ultrasound and a biopsy, they concluded that I had Papillary Thyroid Cancer.
In June of 2017, I underwent surgery to remove my thyroid. Turned out the cancer was all over my thyroid, not just in the nodules. My doctor said it looked like the cancer was starting to seep into my blood vessels so we have been monitoring my thyroglobulin levels and I will soon be doing a radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment.
My son, Zeb, is almost one & a half and is just a bundle of energy. He is such a love! He has helped me grow as a person and as a mom. My faith in God has gotten stronger as I see more and more of the blessings He gives me every day.
Zeb is my co-pilot on many adventures. The biggest of all is life. We are teaching each other about what really matters.
